「グリーンランドの北東、スカンジナビア半島のはるか北に、スヴァルバールという群島がある。 ノルウェーの一部だが、北極圏のなかでも北緯80度近い極北に位置し、人が暮らしている土地としては最も北にある、まさに最北の街だ。当然、夏は光で満たされる白夜、冬は闇に包まれる極夜となり、冬の最低気温は-30℃以下にまで冷え込む厳しい環境である。

When I take portraits with my manual focus camera, especially with a bright lens, it takes a few seconds to focus. Yet that brief moment can be effective at drawing out a good expression.
